A great chapter as always! I loved their romp around the archaeological site (an objectively funny thing to say). And the plot thickening at the end!

Monty?! We have a new name with Father A's past, I suspect we're going to learn more about this Monty later. I liked the ruin exploration, especially the talk between Father A and Lord Vane, and chuckled a little at that bit with the Golden Bough. Though I didn't know it had been censored, ugh, reading about that wasn't fun. Such perfectly preserved ruins make me wonder what exactly happened. Probably something vampire related.

Guessing next chapter will be a major turning point based on that last section. Looking forward to it.

You’re always very perceptive! Obviously I can’t say a word about what will happen 😉

I wish my boyfriend would take ME to an unexcavated archaeological site to fool around on the historic artifacts 😤

Delightful chapter. I could feel the Father's excitement at seeing the Roman settlement. I would be just as if not more excited. I'm curious to see how it goes seeking the underground ruins of the hall. if Lord Vane will indulge him or forbade it? Also Monty? Who is this Monty and what other games did he and our dear Father get up to in their youth?

These two are absolutely adorable, I really didn't expect a scene so cute and touching between them. Every time Victor's past is mentioned I get so excited, I can't wait to find out about Monty, about Victor's ring, about whatever happened to him that made him so determined to stay on a righteous path. Looking forward to seeing what Victor will discover in the subterranean ruins, if Lord Vane agrees to let him down there. Finally, I love the consistent references to Lord Vane and Whithern Hall being two sides of the same coin, of Lord Vane being trapped there etc., and then in this chapter how Victor wonders if "[...] the manor itself had some power of corruption and decay". Based on what happened with Turnip, I want to think that the darkness comes more from Lord Vane than from the manor, but I'm not super confident about that yet. Can't wait to read more!
