I like the meta fiction framing here, distinguishes itself from Dracula with the introduction and the emphasis on how not all of the story survived. Some of the dates being guesswork is interesting. Probably an unpopular opinion, but hoping for even more footnotes in future chapters. I want to know more about John's efforts to preserve and present the documents, how he tried to date the dateless entries and where the lacunae are.
